How to upgrade MySQL to 5.5 in CentOS Web Panel

Today in this tutorial we will show you how to upgrade MySQL server in CentOS Web Panel.

First of all create full database backup (In case if MySQL server break we have backup to restore).

mysqldump --events --all-databases | gzip > /home/alldatabases.sql.gz

Once done install Remi repo.

cd /etc/yum.repos.d

wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/enterprise/remi.repo

Now we will upgrade MySQL Server by running following commands:

yum --enablerepo=remi update mysql-server

sudo mysql_upgrade

Once done, Restart MySQL Server.

service mysqld restart

If you want to do a fresh install of MySQL Server, you can do that with the following command:

yum --enablerepo=remi install mysql-server

You are done with MySQL up gradation.
