One of our client was unable to ping an IPv6 address. Although our Linux based operating system is configured for IPv6 IP address but he was getting error:
ping: unknown host 2a05:b40:0:102::e681:2ca
Regular ping command only works with IPv4 address, So to ping IPv6 host type the commands as below:
ping6 localhost ping6 host.domain.com ping6 IPv6-address ping6 2a05:b40:0:102::e681:2ca
The best way is to ping global website such as:
ping6 ipv6.google.com
Sample output would be like this:
ping6 ipv6.google.com PING ipv6.google.com(wi-in-x65.1e100.net) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from wi-in-x65.1e100.net: icmp_seq=1 ttl=58 time=7.27 ms 64 bytes from wi-in-x65.1e100.net: icmp_seq=2 ttl=58 time=7.09 ms 64 bytes from wi-in-x65.1e100.net: icmp_seq=3 ttl=58 time=7.27 ms 64 bytes from wi-in-x65.1e100.net: icmp_seq=4 ttl=58 time=7.06 ms 64 bytes from wi-in-x65.1e100.net: icmp_seq=5 ttl=58 time=7.34 ms 64 bytes from wi-in-x65.1e100.net: icmp_seq=6 ttl=58 time=7.15 ms 64 bytes from wi-in-x65.1e100.net: icmp_seq=7 ttl=58 time=7.41 ms
Done.
