It\u2019s hard to go to server daily and check for available bundles. For this we can utilize yum-updatesd service to get email notices or we can similarly configure this service to upgrade any packages automatically when available.<\/p>\n<p>Yum-updatesd can be configured with couple of easy steps given below. You may also need to install top yum repositories which provide latest packages.<\/p>\n<h3>Install\/Update yum-updatesd Package<\/h3>\n<p>By default this package installed on system time. So better to update this package before configure it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"command-sh\">\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">yum update yum-updatesd<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Configure yum-updatesd<\/h3>\n<p>You can change the configuration file as per your requirements by using your favorites editor:<\/p>\n<div class=\"command-sh\">\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \"># nano \/etc\/yum\/yum-updatesd.conf<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"command-sh\">\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true\">[main]\r\n# how often to check for new updates (in seconds)\r\nrun_interval = 3600\r\n# how often to allow checking on request (in seconds)\r\nupdaterefresh = 600\r\n\r\n# how to send notifications (valid: dbus, email, syslog)\r\nemit_via = email\r\n\r\n# Put your mail address\r\nemail_to = admin@tecadmin.net\r\n\r\n# who send the notifications\r\nemail_from = support@tecadmin.net\r\n\r\n# should we listen via dbus to give out update information\/check for\r\n# new updates\r\ndbus_listener = yes\r\n\r\n# automatically install updates\r\n do_update = no\r\n # automatically download updates\r\n do_download = no\r\n # automatically download deps of updates\r\n do_download_deps = no\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Exclude Some Packages from Auto Update<\/h3>\n<p>May be some of packages we don\u2019t need to auto update until more specific reason, for example PHP and MySQL. To do it edit \/etc\/yum.conf file.<\/p>\n<div class=\"command-sh\">\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">nano \/etc\/yum.conf<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<p>And add the following line under main section.<\/p>\n<div class=\"command-sh\">\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \">exclude=php* kernel* mysql* httpd*<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Restart yum-updatesd Service<\/h3>\n<p>You can use below command to restart yum-updatesd service and enable auto start on system boot.<\/p>\n<div class=\"command-sh\">\n<pre class=\"lang:default decode:true \"># \/etc\/init.d\/yum-updatesd restart\r\n# chkconfig yum-updatesd on<\/pre>\n<\/div>\n<p>Now you will receive an email to your mailbox with information of packages available for update.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a system administrator, we generally need to keep our systems up to date with most recent packages.
